Books

I had an amazing week in the Caymans with my family. Aside from diving, which is my new favorite thing, I read two and a half books which I recommend very highly.

The first one is The Lightning Thief, its the first book in the Percy Jackson series. So clever, so fun.

The second one is The Hunger Games, a little darker than Lightning Thief, but also more interesting.

Read on.

Disnet Dream Portrait Series

Annie Leibovitz did a series of portraits for Disney that are so good I can't stop looking at them.

Typography

Typography might be my favorite art form.

As a book person and a words person, I've always appreciated the meaning that can be brought out in words through typography. It makes you see the words differently, experience them differently, absorb them differently. Typography will change their meaning. Good typography will add to their meaning.

Bang!

Thanking all of the cupcakes that have changed my life...

In honor of National Cupcake Day! (No I did not make this up.)

The Summit Group

I've had a crush on this company for a long time.

Back when I was finishing grad school and trying to figure out what do next, I went on a Googling escapade to find companies that did what I wanted to do in cities that I wanted to live in.

I looked in San Francisco, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Boston, and Salt Lake City. I looked for companies that did branding and marketing consulting. When I googled "Branding" and "Salt Lake City" and discovered The Summit Group, it was like a transcendent experience.

I love everything about their company. I think they do high quality work. I think they have personality. I love their office space, their logo, their website. I love the idea that their work revolves around telling stories. They just GET it. And there are so few people who do...

Of course, I never applied to The Summit Group. Instead I ended up moving to New York City without and job and working for Time Warner.

Life never quite takes you where you expect to go. And now I'm running my own show at Whitefrog, which is a dream come true.

But if for any reason I find myself a free-agent living within 100 miles of downtown SLC, I will show up on The Summit Group's doorstep in my cutest outfit with a plate of oatmeal butterscotch cookies and beg for a job.

I am now SCUBA certified. Part of my ongoing quest to be as bad@$$ as Lara Croft.

Bunny in a Teacup

I don't have anything clever, insightful or witty to say about bunnies or teacups. I just like this picture for no good reason.

I mean, it's a bunny. In a teacup.

ps. I'm allergic to bunnies.

Come fly with me

I like airplanes and airports.

They usually mean something exciting is happening.

Sunny California

I had a great trip, but it sure was nice to come home to warmth and sunshine. And IKF.

Princess Aurora

Yes, I did watch this movie every day for a year. In my defense, I was 4. But I still love it.

Ha ha works just as well and doesn't sound juvenile

I wanna wake up in the City that doesn't sleep...

I'm on the red eye to JFK tonight.

Can't wait.

Pretty People in Pretty Pictures

One of my favorite things about living in the city was making friends with the awesomely talented people that live there. They were creative and interesting and unafraid to dress in full costume.

For example, they recently threw a 20's party. Josh just happened to bring his camera. THIS is what happened.

Note to self: Must throw a Gatsby Party.

Blue Pears

I have not been able to forget these Blue Pear Bookends since I saw them, like, four months ago.

Another one of those ridiculous, inexplicable things that make me happy.

I recently vowed to stop using profanity. I was incredibly successful until I took up Mariokart. #$%@ it.

Tamborine

When you're counting your talents, don't forget that you play the tamborine.

Into the Great Wide Open

While we are on the subject of music videos, did you know that Johnny Depp stared in Tom Petty's video for Into the Great Wide Open?

And yes, that's Faye Dunaway as the Godmother.

Ok, one more... My other favorite Heartbreaker's video is their trippy Alice in Wonderland take on Don't Come Around Here No More.

*sigh* So clever.

It's been a long night in New York City...

I like John Mayer's new video. It makes me remember all the things I loved about New York, and all of the reasons that I'm glad to be where I am now.

For the record I do not endorse getting stoned, but I do endorse nights out in Manhattan.
